A projector from Optoma is the H79, whose DLP model delivers 1000 ANSI lumens, a resolution of HDTV 1280 x 720 and a contrast of 4500:1. According to Optoma, the lamp has a durability of 3000 hours. For distortion-free image alignment, the projector offers both a lens shift function and keystone correction. The amount of leeway the lens provides can be checked in the Projector Calculator. Regarding projection size, the value of 1000 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 321 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 214 cm. With a value of only 23 decibels, the noise level during operation remains pleasantly in the background. Since entering the market in 2005, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model.

The power supply to the device (mains switch) was interrupted after a long period of operation. Now it can no longer be switched on, nor is there any other sign of life. Up to this point, it had been working perfectly and I was very happy with it. Now I have sent it in and received it back unopened with the note that the device cannot be repaired because there are no spare parts for it. Does anyone have any idea who can help me or do I have to say goodbye to it with a heavy heart?

We‘ve just moved house and rebuilt it after spending hours testing new projectors. There is hardly one under 5000 Euro that has such a stable good picture!
What use is the admittedly better resolution of a FulHD projector if the picture is not as stable as an oak tree
We are happy to wait another 2 years and enjoy our good old quiet Optoma

A super box
First of all the shortcomings:
DVI input instead of HDMI
No VGA input
Menu too simple!
But that‘s it.
Had seen the Pro in comparison at Soundbrothers in Berlin with:
1.Yamaha DPX830 resp. MC3000, picture much blurrier with less depth more color flashes.
2 Epson TW600, blurred good colors for me much worse than a VPL HS 50.
3.Sanyo PLV Z4, for me are hardly understandable why it scores well in the test reports. The picture is much too dull and doesn‘t come close to the colors of the Epson.
4.Infocus IN76, horrible constant flashes not comparable to the Yamaha.
Since I had big problems with the Sony customer service (they broke my VPL HS50 at the World Cup), I would have had big problems now because the four Pro‘s mentioned above were no better than the VPL HS50 and in the meantime there is a VPL HS60. Until the Optoma, we would have had to put up with Sony‘s after-sales service again, so the question arises as to how it can be that an Epson gets 76 points from Audiovision and the Optoma H79 75P is far superior in contrast, sharpness of detail and illumination of the picture.
I had also only seen a few better models at the IFA, the new SIM with HDTV panel and the HDTV projector from Sharp, but both models are far outside my limit of the 2000 Euro‘s paid for the Optoma. It is by far the best Pro I have seen up to 4000 Euro‘s. The picture seems to develop almost physical structures, it almost appears as a 3D object on the screen. In dark areas it is miles ahead of any LCD.
Various areas such as fog, smoke and the like are displayed spatially and almost tangibly. If you don‘t believe it, watch the opening sequence of ICE AGE or Armageddon chapter 15 - no LCD can do that. because it has no shortcomings in the picture, especially where LCD‘s often run out of steam in dark scenes (I‘m not saying that because many now think my LCD is good at not being able to display dark scenes, but it lacks illumination and a sense of space, you can only see it in comparison) and in its representation of space in general, it appears wider and more structured than LCD‘s, its particular strengths can be seen.
It has only one minus point in the picture, when candlelight flickers in the wind it makes flashes. But that‘s it, otherwise you can rediscover old films, thanks to the 8x wheel that runs at 300 hz, this effect is really limited, but when the 3 chippers with HDTV resolution cost 3000-4000 in about 4 years, it will be time to switch. When asked about the best LCD, however, there is only one answer, it is the Sony VPL HS60, but damn the one who has a defect in the device, Sony‘s service is unreasonable. In my case it was only as a precautionary measure that I sent it there because of a defective lamp (after only 830 hours), but I was told that the function and optical condition were excellent. On the return journey, the device was improperly packaged and damaged. Nobody needs such a thing, no exchange device, 4 months wait, WM over! But the purchase price was refunded,
thanks Sony I now have an H79 for it!
