Model Overview

The hardware properties of the EMP TW680 manufactured by Epson include 1600 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1280 x 720 resolution and a contrast value of 10000:1. The runtime of the lamp in this model is estimated at 1700 hours before a replacement is necessary.
Regarding setup flexibility, the model features an optical lens shift function alongside digital keystone correction, allowing for precise alignment; exact values can be calculated using the Projection Calculator.
A look at the light output reveals: The 1600 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 406 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 271 cm.

Clearly the projector is no longer state of the art. But in the meantime it has been running for a good 15 years without any major faults, the bulb has only been replaced
4 times. When it‘s finally had its day, the next one will be an Epson again.

Perfectly sharp

The 3 screen technology gets a sharper picture from this "only" HD Ready projector (every pixel has all the colors!) than its Full HD counterparts with only one screen (the brain mixes 3 pixels into one color).
Let‘s calculate:
HD Ready 1280*720 = 921600
Full HD 1920*1080= 2073600
Full HD by 3 = 691200

It also stands out in terms of picture width: Large screen even at short distances: 3.2m wide screen at a distance of only 3.3m. Eco mode is actually always bright enough when the blind is down, so you can hardly hear it

Great picture, quiet operation, large housing

I‘ve owned the projector for a good year and a half now and after 250 hours of use I wanted to share my experiences. The projector now hangs upside down above my head (distance approx. 1.50 m) and I can no longer hear it when I‘m using it with a PS3 via HDMI. In quiet scenes or during soundless loading, you can of course hear a fan noise, but this is never annoying. With various modes (living room, natural, dynamic, black cinema, etc.), there are suitable settings for every lighting and application situation. I use it almost exclusively in "Cinema black 2" mode with reduced lamp power and therefore a quiet fan. Lensshift is great and you can use it to select quite offset set-up positions without getting a distorted image. The relatively large zoom range also allows different image sizes with various distances. All in all, I‘m very happy with my first home cinema set and for 800 EUR I think it‘s affordable. The only drawback is that it‘s a big box and not a dinky mini projector (about 2 shoeboxes next to each other).

Super projector for little money

Have had the projector since tonight.
I have to say right away that I bought it mainly for gaming.
With a hdmi cable connected to the PS3 the madness (720p)
Pixel sharp picture (no jerking)
Even when watching TV via Scart connection (super picture)
Ideal for those who have to put the projector and do not want to hang on the ceiling !!!!
Lens shift works 100% no image loss
Also no grid to recognize
What many always want to know: What about the volume? I hear nothing (Eco mode)
Remote control is also totally clear and illuminated.
Epson has once again done a great job !!!!!
Also very many connections available.
Why I only gave 95 points is: It is very large the Epson TW680
I would definitely buy it again !!!!

Absolutely great device

Unpack, connect, fit new ceiling bracket and the TW 680 was up and running!
An absolutely recommendable picture for the price range. We are sitting about 3.5 to 4 meters away from the screen and are simply thrilled. DVD player connected via HDMI and DVD recorder connected via component and both offer a brilliant picture when playing DVDs. The TV picture (analog cable connection) is also still in the good range. In addition, the PC is connected via VGA for gaming and here too the projector offers a great picture and it‘s just fun to play games on it. The clicking noise of the screen is only audible when switching from one source to another, so it doesn‘t disturb during playback. The fan noise is also barely perceptible...

I bought the device based on test reports and the opinions expressed here and am extremely satisfied. I would buy it again in a heartbeat, especially as Epson offers by far the longest guarantee on the lamp (3 years or 1,700 hours!).

Price/performance is TOP!

I bought the projector for 784,-EUR.
The black level could be a little better, but of course the picture can‘t get any darker than my screen! Screen is 244 x 138cm, I sit about 4m away from it. The zoom (1.5x) is sufficient!
SD picture (via HD receiver) good, but HD picture via receiver or PS3 is only really great!
Games via PS3 are really fun, have sat in front of it for about 22h in 3 days!
I have often read the question in the forum whether it can display 1080p; it can, have tested it with the PS3, it even accepts 24p. I couldn‘t detect any jerks, but I only tested it for a short time
One error has occurred so far, after about 3 hours of watching, the projector reported that the Auto. Iris was defective. But after a restart everything was ok again

Price performance: 100 points
Overall: 90 points (there are certainly much better projectors, but also more expensive)

My first projector

I was also looking for a suitable projector for my 4 walls for a very long time, I looked at hundreds of test reports and always wavered between DLP and LCD and I have to say that I have not regretted for a second that I chose the TW680. The picture is TOP and you don‘t have to pay the extra price for the TW700. Unfortunately, I had to wait a day after receiving the projector for my screen, so I had to use an old dial screen. The result was not so good (screen 30 years old and probably a gain factor of 45 *grins* without sunglasses almost nothing worked). One day later, my screen bought at *...bay arrived and the result blew me away. Damn good picture (watch DVD upscaled to 720p and Blu-ray 720p via PS3)
I don‘t need any other settings apart from the movie mode, as the other settings are far too bright in my opinion) In ECO mode it can‘t be heard For currently 843â‚¬ an absolute top device.
The infamous grid on the screen is not visible to me at a distance of 4 m. Of course, it‘s up to the viewer and if I want to see something, then I can see it. A very powerful device, therefore 7 stars

I‘ve had the projector for 14 days now and I‘m delighted with it. I think it will be in my home for the next few years. Super picture (also satellite TV via Technisat MF4S) DVD and games via XBOX360. Very quiet in cinema mode1/2, great FB, even illuminated. The projector is really P&P, unpack, connect, switch on For me the right decision until Full-HD becomes the normal state on all progs.

My first ;)

hello everyone,
I can only agree with the previous speaker. the beamer is hard to beat in terms of price/performance ratio and the picture is also perfect. i especially enjoy the HDMI connection, just great. in my small room, the beamer creates a screen diagonal of up to 3.10 meters. in eco-mode you can‘t hear it at all, but you can hear the other modes. but since my Dobly digital system is running anyway, I don‘t care. the database also helped me a lot with my purchase decision...thanks again.

Right decision

For a long time I compared the Panasonic PTAX100 Hitachi PJTX300 SanyoPLV Z5 and the Epson EMP TW700.
Now I‘ve got a bargain with the Epson EMP TW680 for 850 euros.
I chose it because of the picture values which are great in reality. I received the device, unpacked it and installed it with the result that I had made the right decision. I am very satisfied and think the device is great.
Thanks to this database, the decision was much easier for me. Many thanks to the operators!!!
