Behind the name EMP TW1000 is a LCD projector by Epson, whose main features include 1200 ANSI lumens, a contrast of 12000:1 and a HDTV 1920 x 1080 resolution. The manufacturer specifies a runtime of 1700 hours for this projector's lamp. The specifications indicate lens shift optics, allowing the image to be physically shifted without digital image artifacts. The Lens Shift Calculator is available for room planning. Regarding projection size, the value of 1200 ANSI lumens allows for an image width of up to 352 cm in darkened environments. In rooms with ambient light, the image width should be correspondingly reduced to a maximum of 235 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content. The projector was released in 2006 and is officially no longer distributed by Epson. In our projector directory, the device still generates high interest.
I‘ve been using the projector almost daily for about two years now for movies, series and the PS4. The lamp now has over 2300 hours, it still shines like on the first day! Out of interest, I recently looked at a few projectors at Saturn to try them out. At least in normal darkened lighting conditions, I didn‘t notice any significant difference to current models. So still recommendable if you are looking for a good used device.

Reference in its infancy
After I fell in love with the TW 700 and always had my eye on the TW 1000, I wanted to test the projectile. After I had exhausted all possible settings (THX picture), I have to say that in a darkened room it conjures up a rich picture with vibrant colors on the screen, as you would expect from Epson. The black level and contrast are in a tolerable range, if you set the dynamic mode correctly and switch on the somewhat annoying automatic bleed you get something. Unfortunately, as described in the hcinema test, it‘s the annoying chroma effect that smears the red over the pixels like a circular rainbow. But only if you look very closely in PC mode. It is not noticeable with movies. You can prevent the whole thing with a TV or cinemafilter attachment in front of the lens and thus have an absolute top HD picture both in fast sequences. The noise level and the setting options are in the upper class. Of course, you should know that it is a 1st generation Full HD projector and dominated in its time. It surprises, looks very solid and mature. In short, a great device that leaves an impression both visually and in presentation. (CAUTION during long-term operation: 12 hours at a time and after 350 hours the panels shift due to heat development. Even with constant cleaning of the filters in a non-smoking household, it is of no use! Continuous operation is impossible! Long-term test with EMP TW 620, 700 1000 and 2000. All had the same problem, that after approx. 350 hours the panels no longer lie on top of each other and therefore produce a blurred picture. The heat development in the long term is death for this EMP TW generation! However, if you only want to watch 1-2 movies a day, this effect does not occur).
Nevertheless, the EMP TW 1000 is a reference model that outshines almost all other brands on the market at the same time. In short, an awesome device that was really fun!

LCD has caught up with inorganic panels!
At first, I was skeptical about LCD technology. Until now, I owned an Infocus SP4805, but with the PS3 BluRay and the HE-EP30 high-resolution sources moving into my home cinema, the upgrade to full HD was on the cards. The EMP-TW1000 (priced at €1399) has not disappointed me to this day. The inorganic panels put an end to the problems of color clouds and white display; I have not noticed anything of the sort with my model. Contrary to my fears, the projector has no visible grid at normal distance (picture width 2.21m x 1.8). The volume in eco mode is only disturbing in very quiet scenes. The image brightness with a gray screen (brightness factor 0.9) is also bright enough in eco mode. The big disadvantage is that the rudimentary foam dust filter is difficult to reach when mounted on the ceiling; the successor EMP-TW2000 has a better-quality paper filter that is easier to reach. So far, not a single dust particle is visible in the image. Im curious about the durability of the LCD panels.projektoren-datenbank.com/pro/smileys/biggrin.gif

Simply great
I decided on this projector after much consideration because the price-performance ratio is great.
The arrival:
The joy was of course great when I had the package in my hand. My first impression was: WOW!!! It looks great, but does it do that much?
The assembly:
The assembly was really easy. Just connect the power plug and the input signal (HDMI in my case). Now came the big moment.... the first start.
The operation:
I started the projector and heard it start up. Then the Epson logo appeared. But nothing more happened. But the error was quickly found. I had to switch to HDMI on the remote control. Once that was done, the picture was there immediately and in brilliant quality!!! I rented extra Blu-ray movies and a Playsi 3. Then I was amazed and watched almost the whole movie standing up because I forgot to sit down xD. The projector has such great quality.
I have to mention that I have a 2m screen and the projector is about 3m away from it - not a trace of pixels or unreal colors. The menu is very easy to use and if you don‘t feel like setting everything individually, you can simply use the pre-installed color selections (e.g. Theater or Cinema Black 1).
But enough of all the advantages for now. Of course, the projector also has disadvantages. I find that the projector is quite audible in quiet parts of the movie when it has been running for a while.
I also find that the exhaust air has an estimated 65°C (at approx. 30°C room temperature). However, this is not disturbing in the picture, as the exhaust air is blown away from the lens so that no image flicker can occur.
The third disadvantage is less related to the projector but still quite severe. If you‘re only used to HD movies and then switch back to normal movies, it‘s a pain.
So I hope I was able to help you a little with your decision. I‘ll go back to watching my beloved blu-ray movies.
