Model Overview Based on DLP technology, the Planar PD8150 device delivers 1000 ANSI lumens, a resolution of HDTV 1920 x 1080 and a contrast of 15000:1 as a projector. The runtime of the lamp in this model is estimated at 4000 hours before a replacement is necessary, achieving a lifespan of 5.5 years when used for 2 hours a day.
The specifications indicate lens shift optics, allowing the image to be physically shifted without introducing digital image artifacts. For maximum setup flexibility, the model supports optional interchangeable lenses, meaning the optics can be precisely matched to individual on-site requirements. Suitable distances can be determined using the Lens Calculator.
A look at the light output reveals: The 1000 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 321 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 214 cm.
In terms of video signals, the device processes resolutions up to Full HD 1080P.
This model dates back to 2007 and is no longer part of Planar's current product range.

5 Stars Well
Since there are a lot of projectors on the market and the manufacturers promise a lot, I‘ll write a little review...
I compared the planar with the JVC HD 750, SIM2 D80E and an Epson TW 4400. Of course the Epson is in a different price range, but the comparison didn‘t hurt. I had the great pleasure of watching all three projectors on a Stewart GreyHawk RS. Despite a contrast rating of 130,000:1, the Planar was undoubtedly more vivid, and blacks were clearly better. But contrast figures don‘t tell you too much, especially when you can‘t compare the values of different technologies! I would say it was a tie with the HD 750. The JVC was slightly better in very dark scenes, while the Planar was ahead in bright scenes. Whereby the HD750 was almost a tad too dark for me with a screen size of 2.80m wide. What you ultimately like is a matter of taste. Both perform at the same level. I opted for the 8150 because, in my opinion, it has the more vivid picture and you can‘t beat the sharpness and detail of a single-chip DLP. Unless you like slightly softer pictures. The 8150 is very, very quiet for a DLP in Eco mode. And the disadvantages of this technology are virtually undetectable with this video projector!!! All in all, I would like to thank my dealer for the very competent advice and I am always amazed at the great pictures that the projector delivers.

5 Stars Planar vs. JVC
I was lucky enough to see the Planar 8150 in comparison with a JVC HD1 and also an HD100.

My opinion: The JVC HD1 didn‘t stand a chance in a direct comparison - which was certainly to be expected given the price difference.

More interesting was the direct comparison with JVC‘s flagship - the HD100. Here it really is a "coinflip" decision. Both projectors impressed with first-class images. However, the Planar 8150 always seemed a tick more brilliant and vivid than the JVC HD100. At times you really had the impression of being able to "step into" the screen - the picture looked so vivid. ....
In addition to the DLP technology, which I simply find less susceptible (no shading, less susceptible to dust, etc.), the savings of €1000 were also more than convincing.
